Life*Leadership*Legacy April Update

Posted on by Ed Kaczmarek

Let me take moment to provide a Life*Leadership*Legacy Campaign refresher.
Life: we need to enhance and expand our current ministries through the City Life Center downtown, and beyond.  Goal: $250K.
Leadership: we have purchased 2.5 acres on Chestnut to remodel and establish our Campus Life Center for student leadership and ministry. Goal: $750K.
Legacy: we have established the first-ever Endowment for Youth - a legacy fund to generate earnings in support of ongoing programs for years to come. Goal: $500K.

We have raised just over $1 million of our $1.5 million goal; my hope is that we'll have the other $475K raised/pledged by the end of this year.  Here's how the campaign is going in greater detail:

LIFE* - Our multi-purpose room has received many upgrades including electrical, paint, flat screen TV's and furnishings.  Youth meet here, along with two partner churches.  We’ve poured a concrete landing for better accessibility and we’ve improved the doors with panic hardware for greater safety. A lightly used solar panel system was donated and installed, at a low price, on our downtown building.  We expect to cut our PG&E bill in half!  Campaign funds have helped us hire a volunteer coordinator and a YFC Core (student leadership) staff member.

LEADERSHIP* - It's been a near-total remodel of the main house at the Campus Life Center on Chestnut south of Shepherd.  We are installing sheetrock and getting busy working on flooring, cabinetry, etc.

In the back yard, the pool attached to the caretaker's apartment has just been upgraded with a beautiful new pool deck.  Time lapse photos and video of the work can be seen on our Facebook page at Fresno/Madera Youth for Christ.  Thanks to many donors the pool has all new pump equipment, wiring, plumbing, and decking; and will soon have all new tile, lights, plaster, and fencing.  With its waterfall feature it will be a gem - a work of art - for kids to enjoy on those hot summer days for years to come!

The city installed a water meter and a fire hydrant at the street.  We've done lots of pruning of trees and have now removed four 40-yard bins of brush and construction debris.  We still need to grade the land, front and back, and pour a concrete parking lot - even as we continue to work on the main house.

We've selected colors and furnishings and light fixtures.  This place is going to be awesome!  Campaign funds have also made it possible to hire Jeremiah Spears, our Campus Life staff overseeing the Campus Life Center and reaching kids at Buchanan, Clovis West, and Clovis North high schools.  Donating towards new furnishings would be a great way to help and make an impact.

LEGACY* - Giving trends dictate that YFC will need multiple sources of income to operate at current levels in the future.  The establishment of an endowment to complement donor giving, to support programs in perpetuity, just makes sense.  This fund can also accept legacy gifts from trusts, wills, real estate, stock funds - just about any donation of value can be put to work for YFC.  Please contact us if you have questions about gifts to be earmarked for the endowment.  We can recommend estate planning and legal counsel to help you make your plans.

We still need the help of many in our community to cross our finish line.  You might say we have some "unfinished business".  Soon we'll be holding luncheons and open houses at the Campus Life Center to inform the community of our efforts and to build additional support toward our goal.  Watch the mail for these announcements.

Thank you for being a part of the most amazing campaign for expansion in the 70+ year history of Fresno/Madera Youth for Christ.  Only God knows how your support will bless thousands of kids for years to come.  Lives will be transformed as Christ is shared throughout Fresno and Madera counties - lives like Rebecca, Gavin, Frankie, Davita, Carlos, Mariah, and so many others.
