Stephanie Avila-Apps

City Life-701 United Mixed Martial Arts

In March of 2018, Stephanie stepped into Youth For Christ in Downtown Fresno for the first time with her husband Jerald and 8-year old daughter Ariel. She and her husband began volunteering with 701 United through the City Life Chapter of YFC teaching kids jiu-jitsu and sharing their love of Jesus with them. “I remember feeling a deep joy at the opportunity to not only share my passion for jiu-jitsu but to use that passion as a bridge to share my love of Jesus to youth that desperately needed to know Him,” said Stephanie. Stephanie began as the 701 United Coordinator in May of 2018. “A blessing that is unfathomable to my mind and only something that God could have planned,” she said.

Aside from 701 United, Stephanie enjoys spending time hiking, exploring, reading, training in jiu-jitsu, jogging, and baking. Her friends know her as ‘Stephanie the adventurer’ because she is always the first to joyfully say yes to an adventure. “I really enjoy being in nature and pushing myself to reach the tops of mountains, regardless of how difficult the task might appear. God is always with me, and I feel that I pull deeper to Him as I trust that He will get me through any trial,” she said.

Stephanie’s goal for 701 United is to allow God to work through her as He guides her, grows her, and uses her for His glory. “I am blessed to be able to use the passions of my heart-my family, my story, fitness, jiu-jitsu, my love for Jesus Christ, my passion for inspiring others, my heart of mercy for the youth and for community-to do bring glory to God,” she said.

Stephanie is married to Jerald Richard Apps, her best friend who she absolutely adores. They have a 16-year old son named Alijah, an 8-year old daughter named Ariel, their dog Lamb, and several pets including: cats, a turtle, a snake, a guinea pig, and foster dogs that they take in here and there.
